It's time to invest in Cedar Rapids schools.
Over the last several decades, our community has been through unprecedented change. With change comes opportunity, and that's why we're working to invest in Future Ready Schools that we can all be proud of.
The Proposal
The Cedar Rapids Community School District Comprehensive Facilities Master Plan continues the district’s initial work to right-size and align facilities with the changing community populations and locations. The facilities proposal calls for investment in all four quadrants of the city to provide benefits to all students.
Key elements of Phase 1 of the proposal include:
A new land acquisition
Building a new 6th-8th grade middle school
Making renovations for Franklin 7 th -8 th grade middle school
Career and technical education additions to three high schools
Installing new turf fields at three high schools
Kennedy High School cafeteria/kitchen renovations
Updating Metro High School’s gym
More details about the district’s comprehensive master facilities plan can be found on the district’s website.
Why we support YES to INVEST
Cedar Rapids has an opportunity to advance our community’s educational success by supporting the proposed Cedar Rapids Community School District’s bond financing request. Investing in the district’s facilities will not only help prepare students for their future careers, but also promotes the future growth and strength of our entire community.
As residents of the Cedar Rapids Community School District, we support the district’s Comprehensive Facilities Master Plan and the benefits it will bring to students, families, and our communities.
Commitment to the Community
We want to invest to see our community continue to prosper, to be positioned for future success, and be the kind of place that retains our graduating students.
Public education is the foundation of our community. Most of our young people go through public education. It’s the basis for who we are, how we build connections in our communities, and how we solve the problems that challenge us.
In today’s world, the Cedar Rapids metro area is competing with cities around the country for business, investment, and employees. Investing in a strong education system is one way our community can effectively win in this environment.
Preparing our Children for the Future
We recognize the need to make investments to ensure our next generation is positioned for a successful future, regardless of the path they take. Public education supports all options, whether careers, community service, raising families, or pursuing post-secondary education.
Just as we have been the beneficiaries of investments made by previous generations, the investments we make now will support the generations to come after us.
The Cedar Rapids School District has made investments to enhance the education experience at the elementary level. It’s important to continue that investment through our students’ educational journey.
Opportunities for All
Education is the most equitable and sustainable way to lift up our young people, regardless of where they live or what their background is.
Investing in public education is the best way to drive a level playing field that benefits all students and prepares them for wherever their journey takes them.
An opportunity years in the making
